May 2010

Dear Parents,

As the school year nears to an end, we have some exciting changes occurring over the summer months. New playground equipment will be installed the first week of June. The manufacturer requests that the new equipment should not be used for the two days following installation. Please come and check it out the second week of June. Parent volunteers are requested on June 2, 3, & 4 to help move pea gravel, place new border around the structure, and paint the existing playground equipment which will match the new structure. The old playground equipment will be removed as well due to safety constraints. A sign - up sheet is enclosed in the packet. Please be sure to volunteer at least one shift or more if you can. Thank you for helping. Our children are always the focus on the activities we undertake.

We will be working diligently throughout this summer to complete additional projects for the upcoming school year. It is hopeful that a new phone system will be installed throughout the school during the summer as well.  Another new addition to St. Felix School is an interactive teaching system, similar to smartboards, which will be installed into each classroom before the new school year begins. The flower fundraiser sponsored by SPA will donate their proceeds to offset the cost of the new technology. Foss science kits will be ordered for grades K – 2. The science kits enable the curriculum to expand the lab experience as well as hands on learning.

May Crowning will take place on Sunday, May 2 at the 9:30 am Mass. All students are asked to bring flowers for the processional and sing at Mass. Let us honor Mary in her role as the Blessed Virgin Mary, Jesus Christ’s Mother, and our Mother.

A volunteer appreciation Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 4. All St. Felix School volunteers are invited to attend the 11:00 a.m. Mass and lunch following in the auditorium.

Spirit Day will be Friday, May 7. Please wear only St. Felix t-shirts or the school uniform. Friday, May 7, at 11:30 am. the interactive teaching and learning system (similar to smartboards) will be demonstrated. All interested parents and parishioners are welcome to attend this demonstration held in the preschool room.

Monday, May 10, K-4 grades will attend their Bodiology field trip at Rochester. Grades 5 & 6 will attend the MN Science Museum and Fort Snelling for their field trip held on Wednesday, May 12.

Herff-Jones will take an all school picture on Friday, May 14. This will be a student uniform day! We ask students to wear their white polo shirts to school if they own one. If they do not have white polo shirts we will borrow some from the uniform closet for the picture.

St. Felix Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 15. Please sign the registration sheet to enter the tournament and/or the meal following the tournament. Once again, thank you for supporting St. Felix School.

May 17 the school patrol will attend Como Zoo. A huge thank you to the American Legion for providing and paying all expenses for the trip.

Pre-Kindergarten Graduation will be held on Tuesday, May 18. All are welcome! We congratulate our new forth coming Kindergarten students.

Bucks for Jeans will be held on Friday, May 21. Shorts may be worn on this day due to the weather conditions. Students are asked to continue to bring $1.00 to wear the shorts. Shorts do not need to be jean shorts but we ask they are appropriate for school wear.

St. Felix 6th grade class will attend a retreat at the Villa Maria on Monday, May 24. We pray for our students as they journey into Jr. High.

May 26 will be St. Felix 6th grade graduation at 7:00 pm at St. Felix Church. All are welcome. We ask our 5th grade students to participate with the singing at Mass as well as helping serve the reception in the auditorium following Mass.

Field Day is Thursday, May 27. Please come cheer on our students as they enter the challenges of relays and fun outdoor activities. Dinner is open to the public and warmly welcomed! Rain day is scheduled for Friday, May 28. Lunch will remain scheduled for Thursday, May 27.

Last day of school is Friday, May 28.  Please keep our students and staff in your prayers throughout the summer months.

Father Frerichs will be celebrating his 10 year ordination on June 19. Please come to the 4:30 pm Mass and supper following and show him our appreciation for all he has done for St. Felix School. We are truly blessed to have Father Frerichs support our school and celebrate the sacraments with us. We congratulate him on his decade of priesthood!

Saturday, July 31 the Alumni Association will sponsor a St. Felix School open house. Mass will be held at the usual 4:30 pm time followed by a free supper. Watch the bulletin for more details concerning the open house, Mass, and supper follows.

Sincerely in Christ,
